My kit is fairly standard of what you’d find of most photojournalists at mid to large sized daily papers. Shooting with two bodies is a must. It’s hard enough to capture storytelling moments without having to worry about switching lenses. For the majority of my assignments (minus sports) I use the 16-35 on one body and the 70-200 on the second. Not having much control over the situations and environments I work in its important to have equipment that can handle anything thrown at it. It’s also why you won’t see me or many photojournalists shooting with anything less than a 1 series body or the Nikon equivalents. They’re built like tanks and perform no matter what situation I throw at them.

Beyond that I try to keep my gear to a minimum and keep my “focus” on what really matters and that’s the story of the people whose live I’m documenting. So I guess in a sense I’m not much of a gear head. I believe that your cameras are only as good as the eye and heart behind it. Know your tools to the point you’re able to communicate with technical ease and from there see with your eye and shoot with your heart.
